Little Known Things About Me

Shauna Rae from Rae of Sparkles and Ashley from Apparently Ashley both asked me to share a little bit about myself. I mean… they took the time to share some fun facts, why shouldn’t I return the favor? Instead of the usual questions, I listed a couple of things you many not know about me…

Little Known Things About Me:

1 // I used to be a blonde. Blonde Kristine

I wasn’t born a blonde, but for the majority of my life I yearned to be one. I bought stock in Sun-In and eventually had a nice, beachy glow for my luscious locks. My husband even met me as a blonde. Thanks to my amazing hair stylist, Nikki, I am now a brunette. Although I do miss my blonde days, my hair is much more manageable and healthy this way.

2 // I’m a fast talker.

When I was an English teacher, this created a tricky situation. I would talk so fast that it would take some time before my students caught on. But they always aced the listening section of the final because the instructor would read the passage at a snail’s pace. (You’re welcome.)

It is no surprise then that for the majority of my 20’s, I had chronic laryngitis. Talking over the music, plus alcohol and cigarette smoke (remember, you could still smoke in bars/restaurants a couple of years ago) left me speechless after midnight on the weekends.

3 // I’ve held quite a few jobs in many different arenas.

Remember when you were younger, and your parents told you to work hard, keep an open mind, and try a little bit of everything before you settle down in your career? Well, I took that advice to heart. My resume is extensive and it started when I was just about 16 years old. I always had more than one job at a time because I’m a hustla, I’m a, I’m a hustla, homey.

I’ve been a mother’s helper/babysitter. I was a bakery assistant for one day because I got so sick off eating too much cannoli cream.  I interned at a public relations company in the city and a radio station on Long Island. I was a real estate administrative assistant. I worked at a cartoon company in the promotions department. I temped for awhile in New York City, which led me various jobs at various companies. I worked for one day at my father’s sporting goods store. I started from the bottom on the restaurant food chain and worked my way up… busgirl, hostess, waitress, bartender. I was a substitute teacher and I was a middle/high school English teacher. I am now working in the law marketing field and I get to handle the firm’s social media and events.

Every single job has given me the tools to succeed and I am grateful for all the experiences.

4 // I bite my nails (sometimes).

Ugly, ugly habit and I’m starting to grow out of it (only took me 25 years). It happens when I’m anxious, under pressure or if I notice a chip in my manicure.

5 // Sometimes, I disconnect.

I am on the computer all day at work. The last thing I want to do is spend my entire night, scrolling through all my social media channels. Sometimes, when I get home, I will hook my phone up to the charger and won’t touch it again until I’m ready for bed. It’s nice to disconnect from the world for a couple of hours.

Tell me something I don’t know about you! Leave a fact in the comments!

  1. I’ve been a brunette since birth so now at the tender age of 66 I’ve decide to go natural. Currently it is a work in progress that should be complete by May (I hope)

  2. Wow, I thought I had worked a lot of jobs! Working in a bunch of different industries has been so helpful for me, and I wish more people did it. The cartoon company sounds so cool!

    1. I totally agree! Yeah.. I mean that was spread over 16 years… but every job has brought me to the hard-working person I am today! The cartoon company was way cool!

  3. Oh my gosh you went blonde to brunette?!?!?! I literally almost laugh when I read how much we have in common. I am sooooooooo scared to go back brunette because I’ve been blonde for so long! But it’s a thought I entertain all the time!

    1. Yes! I was blonde for the majority of my life! (With the help of Sun-In and later with the help of a salon). After awhile, my hair felt so gross and I wanted a change, so I made the plunge. I did get blonde highlights a couple of times since I switched, but I’m always going back to the dark side. (Tomorrow is my next appointment! Can’t wait!)

  4. Love this! Thank you for finding me via The Bogging Elite & I’m so happy to have discovered you! I was a fast-talking English teacher, too! Can’t wait to read more from you. 🙂
