I’ve been asked by many people how we keep Bentley’s coat so soft and shiny. I’d love to sit here, smile and say, “I LOVE GIVING BENTLEY A BATH!” but then I would be lying to you.
Bentley is 75 pounds. Do you know how hard it is to wrangle a 75 pound, sopping, wet dog?
It’s not easy or enjoyable.
The poor dog is soaking wet, shaking out his entire body as soon as I let go of him, which in turn, sends all of the dirt and soap my way. Indoors or outdoors… it doesn’t matter. I’m a mess. The bathroom is a mess. The yard is a mess. And I’m exhausted.
But on the bright side of things, Bentley looks fantastic. But it’s not only because of my amazing bathing skills.
Below are some tips and things we do to ensure our dogs look their best.
#1: Feed them quality treats/food – Just like humans, in order to look your best, you have to eat right. These dogs are no different. Even though the dog food may be a bit expensive, your dog’s health is just as important as your own. Bentley recently tried Core Wellness Superfood Protein Bars – Chicken and Turkey with Sweet Potatoes Recipe – and he loved them! These tasty treats are packed with ingredients that are good for your pup. They are the perfect pairings of hearty proteins and delicious superfoods. If you are feeding your dog high quality treats and food, it will show through their coat and overall health.
#2: Go walking – With diet comes exercise. In order to look your best, you need to get some cardio exercise every day. I take these puppy brothers out at least three times a day for a walk; sometimes we go for a walk around the block or sometimes we walk for a couple of miles at night. It benefits both myself and the dogs. It drains their energy, keeps their nails short, and allows them to breathe some fresh air.
#3: Send them to the groomer – As I mentioned previously, bathing a 75 pound Boxer is no easy job. I’d rather leave it up to the professionals who I know will do a great job. He comes back smelling like roses, with a shiny coat and a bandana around his neck. I mean, who wouldn’t want to go to the groomer? Even if you send your pup once every couple of months, it’s totally worth it.
